MY PERSONAL PROFILE

Taken by my daughter Anya in July, 2011

BASIC FACTS:

  • NAME: SashaK5871.
  • REAL NAME: Sasha Kasdan.
  • REAL NAME AT BIRTH: Blaze Sasha Moscowitz.
  • DATE OF BIRTH: May 8, 1971.
  • PLACE OF BIRTH: New York, NY.
  • OCCUPATION: Actor, singer, dancer, model (From the photo, isn't it obvious?).
  • YEARS OF ACTIVITY: 1983-present (retired from modeling in 2015).
  • FATHER'S NAME: David Kasdan.
  • MOTHER'S NAME: Deborah Moscowitz.
  • HAIR COLOR: Chestnut Brown.
  • EYE COLOR: Hazel.
  • HEIGHT: 6'1" (185cm).
  • WEIGHT: 180 lbs (82kg)...or thereabouts.
  • MEASUREMENTS:
    • CHEST: 40" (102cm).
    • WAIST: 34" (86cm).
    • INSEAM:
      • SHORTS: 4", 6" and 8" (10cm, 15cm, and 20cm) for cargo, mid-thigh and dress
      • SLACKS: 35" (89cm).
    • SUIT SIZE: 40 US (48 EU).
    • SHIRT SIZE: 17" Neck US Large (43cm Neck EU Large).
    • SHOULDER: 44" (112cm).
    • SLEEVE LENGTH:
      • SHORT: 9" (23cm).
      • LONG: 25" (64cm).
    • SHOE SIZE: 11" (28cm).
  • LANGUAGES SPOKEN: Spanish (Castillian and Catalan); French (Provencial, Bourgeoise, Creole and Quebecoise); Italian; German; Portuguese (European and Brazilian); Danish; Icelandic; Norwegian; Swedish; Russian; Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin, Shanxi and Taiwanese [Min Nan]); Japanese; Vietnamese; Korean; Thai; Tagalog; Farsi; Hebrew; Gaeilge (Irish Gaelic); Gaidhlig (Scottish Gaelic); Cymraeg (Welsh)...too many more to list. And, yes...I do speak them all fluently!
  • METHOD(S) USED TO LEARN LANGUAGES: Phonetics. It's the easiest way to learn (and read) languages other than my mother tongue. Scripts offered to me are transcribed phonetically, which makes them much easier to memorize. However, Spanish and French were both taught to me at an early age.
  • DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: My eyes twinkle and change colors from hazel to gold to green; scar (which cannot be seen much) from my right ear to one inch from my left ear; left eyebrow rises and arches from time to time; chin slants slightly to the left when I smile.
  • KNOWN ALLERGIES: Anything made from peanuts (Sorry, Mr. Carter). I found out, when I was 7, that I was allergic since birth while eating a peanut butter sandwich at school. My throat began closing up and I started choking. Luckily, my teacher, who suffered from allergies herself, carried a box of syringes and several bottles of epinephrine and gave me a quick shot in my thigh. Now, I watch what I purchase by looking at the ingredients on the labels. How serious is my condition? Even the smell of peanuts makes me gag!
Michael Layne Turner (1971-2008)
  • THINGS THAT MAKE ME GLAD: I guess the main things would be friends...mostly because they are so very hard to find today. I've made many since I started my career in 1983...so I would have to say that my best friends would have been my dancing and singing instructors, who had taught me so much and never lost their temper with me...even though I messed up quite a bit!
  • THINGS THAT MAKE ME SAD: Saying a last goodbye to a very good friend who died too young (re: Michael [Layne] Turner, a comic book illustrator who died of bone cancer at 37).
  • PEOPLE WOULD BE SURPRISED TO LEARN: I was an abused child before the age of 12. My mother, angered that she didn't get a raise that she was promised, picked up a wooden director's chair and smashed it across my head, fracturing my skull and crushing my lower right jaw. Realizing what she had done, she called 9-1-1. EMTs arrived shortly afterward and rushed me to the nearest hospital, where doctors discovered from an X-ray that I was suffering from the most fatal of head injuries (if not treated quickly enough)...a subdural hematoma. They quickly shaved my head and cut my scalp from ear to ear (which explains the scar I mentioned before), allowing the pooling blood to drain. Then, they rearranged the broken pieces of bone, covered them with a sterilized piece of metal and stitched me up, leaving a tube to drain any extra blood that might leak out. Then, opening my mouth, they cut my gum near the back of my jaw and proceeded to remove the hopelessly shattered pieces of bone, replacing them with a custom-fitted metal hinge before sewing my jaws shut. The doctors kept me in a medically-induced coma for six months in order to allow me to heal properly. My father won custody of me in 1983, when I was 12, in a family court. My mother was sentenced to five years in a sanitorium. During that time, via court order, she was rendered incapable of ever bearing another child. And if she married a man who had custody of his children, they were taken from him and placed in a foster home until he either divorced her or annulled the marriage. Today, my mother and I have a more civil relationship.
  • INSTRUMENTS PLAYED: Guitar, piano, violin and organ.
  • SIBLINGS: An identical twin brother (given up at birth) named Peter Maldonado. He is married and has three children...two boys and one girl. He owns a construction company and resides in Tarrytown, New York. I only found out about him recently, when my mother revealed that she was suffering from stage-4 pancreatic cancer. She had entered a cancer-treatment hospital in Florida (which I was paying for). She has since been transferred to a center in Phoenix, Arizona, and, from what I hear, is responding extremely well to treatments. I hope so...because I don't want my children to grow up without a grandmother.
  • RELIGIOUS DENOMINATION: Jewish (Don't let that turn you off. I don't!).
  • MARITAL STATUS: Married to Jennifer Goldman-Kasdan (Shi-do-sha Jen91071) since June 25, 1999. I proposed to her in Greece while on a photo shoot in '97 (I was dressed as Paris and she was Helen of Troy), with the Aegean Sea as a backdrop and the designer and photographer as witnesses.
  • CHILDREN:
    • Daughter Anastasia Marie (Anya), born May 6, 2001;
    • Son Ilya Alexis, born April 30, 2003;
    • Son Peter Marat (Pooka), born October 5, 2005;
    • Daughter Catherine Alexa (Katya), born October 5, 2005;
    • Son Kaya Alexander, born January 3, 2008;
    • Daughter Tatiana Ruzena, born December 7, 2010.
  • PETS: Two purebred Yorkies named Pookie and Kookie (purchased after the recent passing of my two miniature pugs Daisy Mae and Lulubell), a golden retriever named Duchess (a rescue dog) and an adopted Amazon parrot named Kiki. I also had a palomino named Star Sapphire (named because of her twinkling dark blue eyes), but she died of a stomach disorder in '97 at the age of 14.
  • RESIDENCE(S): Three...
    • A beachhouse in Malibu, California...our main house;
    • A triple-level mountainside home outside New Paltz, New York;
    • A "retreat" in East Las Vegas, Nevada...which is currently being rented out.
FAVORITE THINGS:
  • COLOGNE(S): Preferred Stock and Drakkar Noir.
  • COLOR: Blue.
  • FOOD(S): Salads with fat-free dressing; lean turkey; fresh fish (love Japanese sushi); fat-free frozen yogurt; fresh fruit; fresh, crisp vegetables (hate boiled, limp ones).
  • CLOTHING: A suit (if the occasion calls for it). I feel right at home in a tee shirt and ripped or faded jeans or a pair of shorts. In bed, a pair of boxers (or short pajamas, if on the road).
  • ACTOR(S): Robert DeNiro, Casper Van Dien and...(ahem!)...me.
  • ACTRESS(ES): Meryl Streep, Julie Andrews, Catherine Oxenberg, Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang.
  • SINGER(S): Neil Diamond, Natasha Beningfield and Leona Lewis.
  • GROUP(S): Coldplay and One Republic.
  • SONG(S): "I Dreamed A Dream" and "Bring Him Home" from "Les Miserables" and "Music of the Night" from "The Phantom of the Opera".
  • MUSICAL(S): "Les Miserables", "The Phantom of the Opera", "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and "Cats".
  • SINGING COACH(ES): Roberta Peters (briefly), followed by Maria Torelli (mostly unknown...but still very good and very understanding). It was for her that I chose to sing "Torna a Sorriento" for my final exam (which I aced).
  • DANCING COACH(ES): Tommy Tune, Bobby Burgess and Jacques D'Amboise. They were all very impressed with my final projects...a lambada, a fox trot and a pas de deux ("Afternoon of a Faun"). To tell you the truth...so was my dance partner! Jacques D'Amboise and I would meet again in Los Angeles in 1995 when he would choreograph me as the Barker of the Starlight Carnival in Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Carousel", a role which he choreographed and portrayed on film in 1956.
  • DANCE TECHNIQUE(S): Ballet training. You need to know a lot of it if you're going to work onstage. The only thing I didn't like was learning the five basic positions. That was real torture! Then again, I guess you have to start learning them at an early age...like 2 or 3. Those positions are murder when you have to learn them at 12 or 13!
  • DANCE PARTNER: Domestically...my wife, of course. We've won a lot of dance trophies. Professionally...the woman I'm dancing with in whatever musical I'm acting in at the time. They're all great and hard workers. They deserve the credit.
  • MUSIC: I like all kinds of music...but mostly classical (love Beethoven and Tchaikovsky) and easy listening music. I'm into 70s and 80s rock...but not acid rock. I also detest rap and hip-hop...primarily because of their dirty lyrics and innuendos. I'm also a fan of foreign singers like Ayumi Hamasaki, The Peanuts, Coco Lee, etc. I also like listening to 50s singers like Yma Sumac (what a voice she had!).
  • BOOK(S): Anything by Anne Rice and Stephen King (I like to have the crap scared out of me). I recently read "The Coming Global Superstorm", the book that the film "The Day After Tomorrow" was based on (really scary!).
  • MOVIE(S): Presently..."2012". That sort of film really makes you think about man's mortality and his place in the universe. Other films I like are "Twilight" and "New Moon". I can't wait for the third installment to come out (although I won't let my kids see them until they're old enough).
  • SPORT(S): Soccer (my favorite); any form of martial arts (karate, kung fu, tae kwon do, jujitsu, jeet kune do, capoeira, muay thai, kalaripayattu, krav maga, etc.); baseball, basketball, tennis, swimming...What can I say? I'm an all-around sports enthusiast!
  • PHILOSOPHER: Friedrich Nietzsche.
  • PHILOSOPHICAL PHRASE: "That which does not kill you makes you stronger" (Nietzsche).
  • AUTHOR: Kahlil Gibran (loved "The Prophet").
  • CAR(S): I owned a 2006 Bugatti Veyron and a 2011 Bugatti Veyron...but I traded them both in (plus forked over $500,000) for a 2016 Bugatti Grand Sport Vitesse. I also owned a 2005 Lexus GS300, (which I gave to my wife), a 2009 Lamborghini Reventon and a 2009 McLaren F1-5, which I sold in 2012 on E-bay for $3.5 million. In 2006, I sold a mint-condition 1959 Corvette (all original) and a restored 1985 Porsche 914 on E-bay for a total of $1.7 million.
    My 2016 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse
  • TV SHOW(S): Game shows ("Unbeatable Banzuke", "Ninja Warrior" as well as "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune"); martial arts contests, anime (love "Yu-Gi-Oh!" and "Inu Yasha"). I also love, and support, public broadcasting. They have some of the best shows on TV...like kiddie shows (for my children), intermediate programs (for those of my children who are between kiddie and adult programming) and ballets and opera (for me and my wife).
PERSONAL LIKES AND DISLIKES:
  • LIKES: First (and foremost), my family (my parents, wife and children); close friends; movies (all kinds, all decades); music; acting; singing; dancing; modeling; swimming; sailing; surfing; sitting by the pool or on the beach on a clear day; one-on-one dining with my wife; hiking and camping in a secluded mountain area (where no one can find me...not even the paparazzi); playing with my kids; horseback riding; the wind in my hair; sleeping poolside on a chaise lounge on a cool night, listening to nature; clothing that looks clean and smells fresh; walking barefoot on the beach in a tee shirt and shorts; running on the beach in my swimsuit; taking a nice cold shower or a dip in the pool on an extremely hot day; working out in my home gym (I like staying in tip-top physicial condition); getting whistled at by young women (sure, my wife hates it...but what can I do?); working with professionals (actors, dancers, models, photographers, etc.).
  • DISLIKES: Where do I start? Well...paparazzi (they're number one in my book); online drug peddlers (I hate getting e-mails about things like Xanax, Vicodin, and Viagra); online prostitutes who have nothing better to do with their time than to peddle themselves (I wonder how they ever get away with that. And how do they get my unpublished phone number?); finding a pair of briefs or boxers that are ripped (I hate wasting money); people who talk or act before thinking (giving their opinion is fine...as long as they know what the issues are all about!); people who are loud and obnoxious; people who like to play excessively loud music; people who drink, smoke or both; people who sing off-key; headaches and body aches (I get them often); accidents (both onstage, onscreen and off); hospitals (I've been in a few...and that's enough); a broken zipper on an article of clothing which I desperately wanted to wear; getting threatened by guys whose girlfriends (and wives) whistle at me; having to wait for another actor to read his lines correctly (that really bums me out); working with a photographer who doesn't know what he's doing (like the one on my first Gianni Versace assignment when I was 15. He knew squat!).

HOBBIES:
  • I guess you would think that all of the above is everything a guy like me could ask for...right? Well, guess again...it isn't!
  • Besides acting, singing, dancing and modeling, I like building models of classic motion picture monsters (Godzilla, Ghidrah, Dracula and Frankenstein are my favorites) as well as classic cars and ships. I have a 30" model of the Titanic resting on the mantel of my fireplace in Malibu.
  • I recently acquired a gold belt in martial arts...with my wife's help...and am a licensed shi-do-shi. I excel in karate, kung fu, tae kwon do, jujitsu, jeet kune do, capoeira (Brazilian kickboxing), muay thai, etc.
  • I love to rollerblade (I'm a member of the "50-Milers Club"), swim and high-dive (I hold varsity and collegiate medals for 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform diving). I also jog and ride my bicycle up and down the P.C.H. and Mulholland Drive whenever possible. I love to enter 5K and 10K endurance races (again, whenever possible).
  • I'm also an avid artist...a real whiz with the paints and brushes. I've painted several canvases...with my wife as my model. And, why not? She's as gorgeous today as the day we met...25 years ago! I've also painted the discovery of America and the sinking of the Titanic. Who do I have to thank for my learning how to do this? I guess I would have to give Mike Turner a lot of the credit. He was an amazing illustrator...and a fabulous friend. I really miss him.
  • Recently, I grew to like archery...because of some film bits. Can you guess which ones?
  • When I can have a few days to myself, I like to play with my kids, read classic novels, plays and film scripts.
  • Also, I love photography! As a teenager, I covered some war zones and took prize-winning photographs, earning between $10,000 and $50,000 for some of them. Boy, what I didn't do to further my education!
  • When my wife and I are not working (which is not often), we love to indulge in sailing and surfing.
INTERESTS:
  • I guess I would have to say my main interests are my wife and children. I love all of them and would rather die than let any harm come to them.
WITTY WORDS TO THE WISE:
  • "What do I think of sex? I think a man should experience it as much and as often as he can...with the same woman, of course!"
  • "Never give a dictionary to a toddler whose first word is 'dada'. I did...and now I can't get my oldest daughter to shut up!"
  • "When planning a dinner party, make certain you know how to cook first. If not, always keep a fire extinguisher handy...as well as plenty of Pepto-Bismol and the telephone numbers of the nearest poison control center and a personal injury attorney!"
  • "I may be the host of a party at my house...but I'm never a designated driver. I always serve non-alcoholic beer and wine! My guests always leave satisfied...but never plastered!"
  • "When it's the father's turn to change the diapers, always wear a clothespin and face-shield to prevent accidents!"
  • "Thank goodness for Huggies! If I had to use old-fashioned diapers, I'd have bloody fingers every day!"
  • "When practicing martial arts, never kick a pole made of cement! I found that out the hard way!"
  • "When performing in martial arts contests, never kick a man when he's down. Wait until the S.O.B. stands up...then kick him for a loop!'
  • "When filming, always remember your lines. It keeps you from looking stupid before the other cast and crew members!"
  • "When doing a play, always remember your lines. It keeps you from looking stupid in front of an audience...especially the critics!"
  • "When doing a comedy routine onstage, always find out the names of celebrities who are going to be in the audience beforehand...so you can target them as the brunt of your jokes!"
  • "Some people say a man should never marry a woman who knows more than he does. I did...and I haven't regretted it one bit!"
  • "My favorite and least favorite stage roles? Well, Rum Tum Tugger from CATS had to have been my favoritie...because I was the last one to play him on Broadway. My least favorite? Definitely, Demetrius from TITUS ANDRONICUS. It left a bad taste in my mouth...or anybody's mouth, for that matter. After all, my character was slaughtered and baked into a meat pie! Believe me, that could be very unappetizing...especially when you're only 17!"
  • "The most difficult role which I had to handle? That had to have been Don Baker in BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE. I had to wear contact lenses that matched my natural eye color...with the pupils painted over. Technically, I was really blind onstage during every performance both at UCF and the Orlando Regional Theatre. Rehearsing was hard because I kept on bumping into things and falling over low tables and things. The director wanted me to do it without the lenses...but I refused, saying it would look phony. But after two weeks, I was a natural!!!
  • "I've always been told by the ladies I work with that I have great legs. What's the matter with the rest of me???"
  • "My female co-stars always say that I'm theirs during the day and my wife's at night. Wrong! I'm hers 24/7!"
  • "I know my wife takes the covers when I'm asleep. I always wake up as naked as a bearskin rug!!! But, how on earth does she get my underwear, too?"
  • "Women always say a man is stupid if he has to rely on a map. What else do they think OnStar was created for besides opening doors?"
  • "My cousin once said he used to live in a house with a dog that was so neurotic, it charged a glass door and barked at his dog. That's not neurotic...that's psychotic! To me, a neurotic dog is one that feels you're more interested in his food than he is!"
MY ONLINE LIFE:
  • I go online whenever I can get some free time. When I do, I love playing Slingo, as well as games on Boxerjam and Game Show Network.
  • I also love reading and answering my filtered e-mail...as long as it is clean and not too personal.
